NASA sites built by Lone Rock Point win Webby Awards

Last week, NASA was Webby Awards the newly revamped www.nasa.gov and for the NASA+ streaming service, plus.nasa.gov Lone Rock Point, along with several other dedicated teams, was contracted by NASA to redesign and rebuild the www.nasa.gov website, with an aim to modernize and increase its accessibility. Following the successful redesign, Lone Rock Point continued its commitment to NASA’s mission by leading the web launch of NASA+, the agency’s new on-demand streaming service.

Lone Rock Point played a pivotal role in revolutionizing NASA’s website through an extensive redesign and development project, utilizing WordPress as the core content management system. This initiative was driven by the need to enhance user experience and modernize content management processes. 

The Webby People’s Voice Awards are especially significant as they are determined by the voting public, which highlights the new website’s ability to captivate and engage a global audience. Lone Rock Point’s commitment to a user-first philosophy is the guiding principle behind the work. This approach ensures that the website is not just visually appealing but also intuitive and accessible to all users, regardless of their technical expertise or physical ability.

NASA+, designed to centralize and streamline access to NASA’s vast library of video content, stands out for its user-friendly interface and the sophisticated backend system that supports it. Lone Rock Point, recognized early on the imperative for a platform that was not only efficient in managing and delivering content but also maximized user engagement and accessibility. The approach involved streamlining the content delivery process to ensure it catered to the varying bandwidth and device preferences of their global audience. 

Lessons Learned for CivicPress

The experience gained from working on the NASA.gov redesign and the NASA+ streaming service, particularly in adhering to the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) principles have been invaluable. These projects underlined the importance of creating digital experiences that are accessible, inclusive, and effective for all users.
